Cricketer Summoned for Palestinian Flag on Helmet in J&K Match

A controversy has arisen over a cricketer’s use of the Palestinian Flag during a domestic league match in Jammu and Kashmir. Furqan Bhat displayed a Palestinian flag on his helmet while playing in the Jammu and Kashmir Champions League.

Bhat was representing the local JK11 team in yesterday’s game against the Jammu Trailblazers. The Jammu Rural Police have summoned him for questioning regarding this act.

Controversy against Furqan Bhat for using Palestinian Flag

Additionally, the league’s organizer, Zahid Bhat, and the individual who provided the ground for the match will also be questioned. An investigation is in progress.

The situation in Jammu occurs alongside ongoing protests worldwide that support Palestinians’ demand for statehood, several months after a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the armed group controlling the Gaza Strip.

Protests have increased as Gaza faces severe food shortages and a lack of essential medicines. The situation may worsen as Israel plans to ban 37 aid groups in Gaza. Many humanitarian agencies and international organizations have called for the revocation of such measures. These bans could jeopardize the fragile progress made during the Gaza ceasefire, as highlighted by the NGOs.

In line with its long-standing foreign policy, India supports a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, which effectively entails the establishment of a Palestinian state.
