Reigning international champion Gukesh beats Magnus Carlsen in the Norway Chess event on Sunday at Stavanger. Just when Gukesh was on the verge of losing, Gukesh stuck Carlsen through wonder to overcome him in a classical game for the first time during round six of the event.
Gukesh beats Magnus Carlsen and make History
Gukesh jumped to the third spot with 8.5 points in the event and now trails the world No.1 Carlsen and American Fabiano Caruana by only one point. Despite being in a precarious position for a number of the game, Gukesh capitalized on a rare mistake through Carlsen during time scramble, securing a win in 62 movements after over 4 hours of intense play.
This victory was fabulous for the 19-year-old Gukesh, who had face a defeat Carlsen in the this chess game.
Carlsen slams table in frustration
Carlsen show his frustration after Gukesh beats Magnus Carlsen. He slams the table in frustration before leaving the venue. His trainer, Grzegorz Gajewski, commented on the significance of the win, mentioning that it’d offer Gukesh with a vast confidence boost for the remaining match and future plays with Carlsen.
“It (win) only gives a boost of confidence (to Gukesh) because once you’ve achieved it, you can do it again. And this is the plan,” said Gajewski.
He was asked whether Gukesh’s win can role as a confidence booster for other Indian players. He said it absolutely does. “And for the event (Norway Chess) that’s going earlier, it gives him (Gukesh) a bump. Hopefully we can break other records. Perfect,” said the Pole.
