The much-anticipated HBL PSL 10 squads were finalized after an electrifying player draft at Huzoori Bagh, Lahore Fort, in the afternoon. Some fresh faces and big names came into the mix in this year’s draft, raising expectations for a crackling season.
New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell was the historic first pick by two-time champions Lahore Qalandars. The vastly experienced all-rounder, who has represented his country in 70 T20Is, will be making his HBL PSL debut in 2025. His inclusion should give the Qalandars’ batting lineup a much-needed boost as they gear up to defend the trophy.
Key Highlights from the Platinum Round
Karachi Kings wasted no time securing their marquee player, signing left-handed Australian batter David Warner with their first Platinum pick. Warner’s extensive T20 experience—12,727 runs in 392 matches—adds a new dimension to the Kings’ lineup. His inclusion makes him one of the most exciting debutants in this year’s tournament.
Peshawar Zalmi used the Right to Match option to retain trusted Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who Quetta Gladiators picked. Kohler-Cadmore has been part of the core group of the Zalmi for four years. Quetta balanced it up by bringing in New Zealand’s Mark Chapman with a decade-long T20I career and dual international experience.
The Multan Sultans and Islamabad United completed the Platinum round one signings by adding Michael Bracewell and Matthew Short to their ranks, respectively. Bracewell is an all-format player for New Zealand and is a seasoned campaigner with bat and ball, while Short is expected to give an already explosive Islamabad batting line-up an even bigger boost as they go in search of a fourth PSL title.
Shining Names in Platinum Round Two
Quetta Gladiators bolstered their lineup by utilizing the Wild Card pick to sign up Faheem Ashraf. They also brought in the destructive Kiwi opening batter, Finn Allen. He is noted for his 158.69 strike rate throughout 47 T20Is for the Kiwis. Karachi Kings brought much-needed pace and power by selecting Adam Milne along with the standout from Multan Sultans, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, who was the highest wicket-taker in PSL 2023.
Diamond and Gold Round Picks
The international big guns started donning PSL 2025 teams’ colors. Jason Holder, Corbin Bosch, and Kusal Perera were some of the key picks for Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, and Lahore Qalandars, respectively. These picks do promise all-around performance and depth in their respective teams.
Quetta Gladiators picked Akeal Hosein in the Gold category, with Islamabad United signing left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis. The young Bangladeshi fast bowler, Nahid Rana, proved to be an exciting pick for Peshawar Zalmi as his express pace may unsettle many batters in PSL 2025.
Fresh Talents and Historic Picks in PSL 10 Squads
The Silver and Emerging rounds threw up some new faces. USA’s Andries Gous became the first-ever American cricketer in the HBL PSL, going to Islamabad United. Multan Sultans picked Irish pacer Josh Little and West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie to add depth to their bowling attack.
Other major signings included Kane Williamson going to Karachi Kings, while Shoaib Malik extended his PSL stint with Quetta Gladiators for what will be a record tenth season. Quetta picked up Hasan Nawaz, and Zalmi drafted in Maaz Sadaqat, yet again showcasing the league’s eagerness to develop new talent.
