Rajasthan Royals captain and big name wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson desires to leave the franchise. It announced by Cricbuzz, ESPN Cricinfo and Indian Express on Thursday (August 7) that the 30-year-old cricketer from Kerala, who’s RR’s most capped player in IPL records and also their highest run getter and most a hit captain, officially asked the Jaipur-based team to both change or release him before IPL 2026 auctions.
A day after it suggested that Samson wants to part ways with Rajasthan Royals, The Indian Express has said that the 5-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings interested in securing the services of Samson. In reality, after the belief of IPL 2025, Samson even met with CSK management and their head coach Stephen Fleming in the United States.

“It is known that Chennai open to the idea of bringing the 30-year-old to Chepauk by a trade through cash. But it has hit a roadblock, with Rajasthan preferring a trade of two players from Chennai,” resource said.
Apart from Chennai Super Kings, three-time IPL champion Kolkata Knight Riders also interested about signing Samson; however, “Samson appears to keen on creating a move to Chennai for a number of reasons.”
Samson’s record in IPL
Since making his IPL debut in 2013, Samson has played a total of 177 matches for two teams – Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals (previously Delhi Daredevils) – and has 4704 runs to his name. The 30-year-old right-hand-passed wicketkeeper-batter has scored 3 centuries and 26 50s in the international’s richest franchise cricket league.
Samson has led RR in a total of 67 IPL matches to date and received 33. He retained for Rs 18 crore before IPL 2025 mega public sale by the Jaipur-based franchise.
