Aiden Markram scored a great century, supported by fifties from Matthew Breetzke and Dewald Brevis, as South Africa chased down 359 to beat India by four wickets in the second ODI at Raipur. This victory leveled the three-match series at 1-1.
South Africa Win Over India with 359 runs
After centuries from Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad, along with KL Rahul’s unbeaten fifty, India posted 358/5 in 50 overs. Markram led South Africa’s chase with an impressive 110 off 98 balls. Breetzke contributed a fluent 68, and Brevis added a lively 54, providing key momentum in the middle overs. The team completed the chase with four balls remaining.
Markram’s innings was the backbone of South Africa’s effort. He had partnerships of 101 and 70 with Temba Bavuma, who scored 45, and Breetzke. After being dropped on 53 by Yashasvi Jaiswal at long-on, he made the most of that chance. Breetzke and Brevis added 92 runs for the fourth wicket, keeping the required run rate manageable despite a dewy outfield, while India missed chances due to lapses in the field.
Third highest ODI Chase
Corbin Bosch finished the job with an unbeaten 29, leading South Africa to their third-highest ODI chase. This chase of 359 also matches the highest total ever chased down against India in ODIs, tying with Australia’s pursuit in Mohali in 2019.
South Africa started strong, with Markram and Quinton de Kock hitting five boundaries in the first three overs. India struck early when Arshdeep Singh forced de Kock to mistime a shot to mid-on, where he was out for eight. Although Arshdeep and debutant Harshit Rana tested Markram, he settled in as the new-ball movement faded.
