Galgotias University ordered to leave its exhibition space at the AI Impact Summit due to a controversy over a robotic dog displayed at its stall. Critics claimed it was a Chinese-made commercial product. But university presents as an institutional innovation. This development followed a viral video from the event that sparked online backlash and media attention.
Galgotias University face accusations over robotic dog, leave stall
The controversy started when a video appeared showing representatives from the Greater Noida-based university presenting a robotic dog to visitors at the summit. In the video, presenters stated that the robot “walks around their campus all the time” and outlined its possible uses, including surveillance and the ability to capture images from hard-to-reach places.
The video quickly went viral, leading several media outlets to question the validity of the university’s claims. Reports suggested that the institution’s AI exhibit, tied to a stated investment of over Rs 350 crore, was misleading.
Critics claims it is china made, but university rejects claims
Critics pointed out that the robot highlighted by the Galgotias University not developed in-house. It was actually the Unitree Go2, made by the China-based Unitree Robotics. This device is a mass-produced quadruped robot available on global online marketplaces for about $2,800 (around Rs 2.3 lakh).
Reports shows that the off-the-shelf robot, usually priced between Rs 2–3 lakh renamed “Orion” for the display at the Delhi summit. This led to claims that it misrepresented as the university’s own creation.
But University denied ever claiming ownership of the robotic dog. In a statement, the university explained that the robot acquired from a global robotics company based in China and strictly used as a learning tool for students.
