OpenAI is the leading artificial intelligence research lab, but it faces a major hurdle in launching its new Model, GPT-4.5. As per company CEO, Sam Altman, they are out of “out of GPUs,” and forced to release the new Model in phases, due to shortage. The New Model, GPT-4.5 are expected to improve the performance, a deeper world knowledge and higher emotional intelligence. The shortage of GPU has need access to different user groups and plans the GPT 4.5 launch in phases.
GPT-4.5: A expensive Model will launch in Phases
The new model, GPT-4.5 is expensive and giant, as per CEO. It needs the “tens of thousands” of GPUs more before ChatGPT users access it. Due to shortage, the company first give access to this model to Pro subscribers from Thursday, and then give access to Plus customers from next week.
Pricing Strategy for OpenAI New Model
GPT-4.5 comes with a costly price tag due to complexity and size. GPT-4.5 Charge the $75 per million tokens for this model, and $150 per million tokens produced by it. The pricing makes the increase from costs of OpenAI’s previous model, GPT-4o, that is 30 times the input cost and 15 times the output cost of this model
Sam Altman also admit the company GPU shortage and rapid growth in his post on X. He promised that OpenAI set goal to add “tens of thousands of GPUs next week” to make launch of this model possible for Plus tier users. The company also plans to create its own AI chips to avoid these problems in the future. It also helps OpenAI to build a massive network of data centers in the coming years.
