J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led a meeting of various security units at the Raj Bhawan on Friday. He announced the reopening of 12 more tourist spots in Jammu and Kashmir. These spots had been closed after the Pahalgam Attack in April of this year.
An official said that out of the 12 reopened locations. 5 are reopened in the Jammu division and 7 in the Kashmir division. Parks and gardens in and around Pahalgam, such as Aru Valley, Rafting Point Yanner, Akkad Park, Padshahi Park, Bijbehara, and Dara Shikoh Garden, are now open to tourists.
Reopened tourist destinations in J & K after Pahalgam Attack
In the Jammu division, the reopened destinations include Dagan Top in Ramban, Dhaggar in Kathua, Chinkah in Reasi, Shiv Cave in Salal, Reasi, and Padri in Doda.
Following the Pahalgam terror attack, at least 48 destinations were closed in J&K. In June, the Lieutenant Governor, responsible for security, reopened 16 destinations, 8 from each region, due to an improvement in the security situation. However, many popular spots, such as Doodhpathri and Aharbal, remain closed for tourists.
Top officers took decision
The latest decision to reopen destinations after Pahalgam Attack came after Mr. Sinha reviewed security with top officials on Friday. It includes Northern Army Commander Lt. Gen. Pratik Sharma, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, GoC 15 Corps Lt. Gen. Prashant Srivastava, GoC 16 Corps Lt. Gen. P.K. Mishra, GoC 9 Corps Lt. Gen. Rajan Sharawat, Air Vice Marshal Vikas Sharma, and ADGP CID Nitish Kumar.
