New Delhi, Sep 23 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated an interstate DTC AC bus service from Delhi to Baraut in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. She also introduced new digital ticketing machines for bus conductors and a new app called Chalo for commuters, according to an official.

At an event at the interstate bus service from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, CM Gupta claimed the previous government deliberately closed down profitable services of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

CM Launch DTC AC bus service, from Delhi to Baraut

In a subtle jab at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, CM Gupta asked, “Why did those who said they would make Delhi as good as London and Paris not have time to improve the city’s transport sector?”

She stated, “The closure of DTC’s interstate buses for the past 17 to 18 years has been part of a plan to systematically dismantle the Corporation.” “When private interstate buses are making money, why shouldn’t the DTC do the same?” she asked, reaffirming her government’s goal to make the public transporter profitable soon.

“When I became CM, I saw buses from UP, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab operating in the city. I wondered why there were no interstate DTC buses,” she said.

CM reveals the plan to launch new interstate services every month

She added that the DTC AC bus service is just the start, and the government plans to launch at least one new interstate service each month. Later, the CM posted on X, “On the birth anniversary of Honourable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, we inaugurated the interstate bus service from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Delhi to Baraut in UP as part of the Seva Pakhwada organized today. We also launched modern PoS machines and the Chalo app.”

She add, “The interstate bus service, which had been halted for years, has been restarted by our government. The new AC bus service between Delhi and Baraut shows our commitment to creating an affordable, accessible, reliable, and inclusive public transportation system.”
