Delhi Metro Expansion Approved: 13 New Stations to Be Built in 3 Years

The Cabinet has approved the Delhi Metro Expansion project, Phase 5A. This 16-km corridor consists 13 new stations and built at a cost of ₹12,015 crore over three years. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) said that out of the 13 stations, 10 will underground and three will elevated. With these new corridors, the total operational length of the Delhi Metro network will exceed 400 km.

Delhi Metro Expansion phase approved

The approved phase consists of three separate corridors. The longest will connect Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, covering 9.9 km, at a cost of ₹9,570.4 crore. Another corridor will link Aerocity to Airport Terminal-1, spanning 2.3 km, with an estimated cost of ₹1,419.6 crore. The third stretch will connect Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj over a distance of 3.9 km, costing ₹1,024.8 crore.

These new corridors aim to improve connectivity in high-traffic areas of the national capital. They will help reduce road congestion and enhance last-mile access to major residential, commercial, and transit points.

Metro phase under construction

In the meantime, construction on the Saket G Block-Lajpat Nagar section of Delhi Metro Expansion Phase 4 began earlier this month. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officially launched the project. The event included the ground-breaking and first test piling ceremony for the elevated section of the Golden Line (Line-11) at Pushpa Bhawan near Saket. The corridor is expected to be finished by 2029.

This new line will span 8 km and will branch off from the IGI Airport-Tughlakabad corridor at Saket G Block. It will include eight elevated stations located at Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar, and Saket G Block.
