Thailand is preparing for the launch of its long-awaited Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system for Indian travelers on January 1, 2025. It will ensure simplified Thailand e-visa processing while maintaining the current 60-day visa exemption for Indian passport holders visiting for tourism or short business trips.
The Thai embassy declared that visa applications from non-Thai nationals, like Indians, can be submitted through the official portal thaievisa.go.th. An individual can apply for themselves or send a representative to get the process done. The embassy clarified the point that visa fees are non-refundable, and information on offline payment methods will be communicated by the embassy as well as its consulates very soon.
Streamlined Application Process
The ETA will permit Indian visitors to make a single entry into Thailand, which will be valid for a stay of up to 60 days. If extended, the visit will be granted for an additional 30 days. Faster immigration clearance will also be made possible for ETA holders through automated gates at checkpoints. Scanning the QR code on the ETA will make entry smoother and quicker.
Important Deadlines and Transition
For ordinary visa applicants under the current system, the application deadlines are rapidly approaching. Applications for ordinary passports must be submitted to designated visa processing agencies on or before December 16, while those applying for diplomatic and official passports have until December 24 to submit their applications to Thai embassies or consulates.
Oversight and Penalties on E-visa of Thailand for Indians
The ETA system will also track visa-exempt nationals during their stay. Those who overstay their period of authorization shall be given daily fines, among other penalties.
E-visa of Thailand for Indians is to upgrade travel experiences with more convenience and efficiency in the use of travel for people.
