Meerut Rapid Train Sees 1 Lakh+ Ridership on First Complete Day

“Bharat Mata ki Jai” resonated in the trains as passengers filled the Delhi-Meerut RRTS train on its first full day of operations. The NCRTC reported that it recorded its highest ridership ever, exceeding 100,000 people.

This milestone occurred a day after Modi opened the full 82-km Delhi-Meerut corridor and the new Meerut Metro link. It mark the start of commercial services along the entire route.

Delhi-Meerut RRTS Train sees 1+ lakh riderships

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation said, “On Monday, with the last train set to leave at 10 pm. NCRTC expects the total ridership to exceed 100,000 commuters.” According to the corporation, this was the highest number of riders recorded on the corridor to date.

A video from Begumpul station in Meerut showed passengers eager to try out the new service. Large crowds gathered on the spacious concourse early in the day, with many families and young people taking selfies and photos on the train and at the station.

Another video featured commuters chanting “Bharat Mata ki Jai” while enjoying their first ride on the Meerut Rapid train. It capture the festive spirit among the passengers.

Riders throw flower petals on platform

Some riders seen throwing flower petals on the platform as the RRTS train approached, while others waved excitedly. The footage depicted orderly lines at the ticket counters and platform entrances, with station staff helping first-time riders and explaining safety measures.

PM Modi inaugurated the remaining sections of the RRTS. It includes the 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and the 21-km extension from Meerut South to Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.

The Namo Bharat system is designed for speeds up to 180 km/h. Its goal is to greatly reduce travel time between Delhi and important urban areas like Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut.
