Nitin Gadkari said that the planned green expressway will reduce the distance between Delhi and Chennai by about 320 km and enhance connections between major cities. The Union government has revealed plans to construct a New Green Express Highway to strengthen the link between the northern and southern regions of the country.
New Green Express Highway reduces Delhi-Chennai Travel distance
On Wednesday, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the proposed corridor will reduces travel distances and improve road transport efficiency.
The new route will stretch from Surat in Gujarat to Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. This will be part of a wider highway network that connects various major cities across the country.
It shorten the distance between Delhi and Chennai. According to the minister, the new expressway will cut the distance between these two cities by about 320 kilometers, which should decrease travel time and transportation costs.
Another highway from Surat to Nashik planned
“Now, we have made a historical decision to build the Express highway from Mumbai to Delhi, which is already 70-80 % complete.
“After Surat, we are developing a New Green Express Highway starting from Surat to Nasik, then to Ahmednagar, Sholapur, and Kurnool. From there, it will link to Chennai, Kanyakumari, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Cochin. This will provide new connectivity from North India to South India,” the minister informed the members.
Travel time between Delhi and Mumbai will also decrease. Gadkari emphasized that the ongoing infrastructure improvements will significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Mumbai once the new expressway network is finished.
