The Union Cabinet has approved the Jaipur Metro Phase 2 project. This major initiative aims to improve urban mobility in Rajasthan’s capital. It will develops 41 kms North-South metro corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod and also includes 36 stations. The project approves at cost of ₹13,037.66 crore.
Expanding Jaipur’s Metro Network
Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL) will implement the new corridor. This is a joint venture between the central and Rajasthan governments, with equal funding from both.
Jaipur’s current metro system, under Phase 1, runs along the East-West corridor from Mansarovar to BadiChaupar. It covers 11.64 km and has 11 stations. The Phase 2 expansion will add a North-South line, creating a more complete transit system for the city.
Connectivity to Key Economic Hubs
The Phase 2 corridor will connect major activity centers, including Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital and Stadium, Ambabari, and Vidhyadhar Nagar.
It will also feature underground stations near the airport and will connect easily with Phase 1 through interchanges and feeder systems. This will provide a unified metro network.
