There are 4 people died and over 50 are missing after a cloudburst cause landslide in Uttarkashi’s Dharali village in Uttarakhand. The village is around 4 km from the Indian Army camp at Harsil, at around 1:45 pm on Tuesday, affects street connectivity to the sacred Gangotri Dham. The cloudburst results in torrent of water and debris, impact area and prompting an emergency response.
The affected area lies close to the winter seat of Ganga Ji at Mukhba and the respected Gangotri Dham. Visuals recorded by tourists confirmed a violent circular storm with particles cascading down the hills, sweeping away several houses and flora.
Landslides in Uttarakhand claims life of 4 people
“Everything from hotels to markets has been destroyed. I have not witnessed a catastrophe like this before,” an eyewitness told to media. The overflowing Kheer Gadh drain in the Harsil location further intensified the destruction, prompting the Uttarkashi Police, SDRF, NDRF, Army, and different rescue teams to starts relief efforts in the worst-hit zones.
The Indian Army, which was placed near the landslide site, became some of the first responders, rescuing minimum 15 people. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami termed the incident “deeply painful” and said he’s in touch with senior officials.
NDRF, SDRF teams arrive to found missing people
“The news of heavy destruction caused by the cloudburst in Dharali (Uttarkashi) is saddening. SDRF, NDRF, district administration, and other associated groups are working on a war footing. I pray for all people’s safety,” Dhami said.
A 16-member team from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police has already reached Dharali after Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured Chief Minister Dhami of all assistance following the incident. Another team with equipment has also been send to the spot.
“Spoke to the CM of Uttarakhand regarding the landslide incident in Dharali (Uttarkashi), Uttarakhand, and took stock of the scenario. 3 ITBP groups have been sent to the place, and four NDRF teams have also been send to site.
