Hyderabad experienced heavy rain overnight on Wednesday, which caused flooding in several areas. A young man named Sharafuddin died after being swept away by floodwaters at the Balkampet underpass near Begumpet. He was riding his bike when the rushing rainwater pulled him into a submerged cellar. Locals tried to help him but could not reach him in time.
Biker Dead in Flash floods in Hyderabad
The rainfall caused flash floods across Secunderabad and other low-lying parts of the city. In some neighborhoods, household items were washed away as residents and local youths worked to assist stranded families.
The mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Vijayalaxmi, visited affected areas to oversee relief efforts. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy ordered all departments, including Police, HYDRAA, Traffic, GHMC, and Energy, to work together on relief operations and clear flooded roads. He advised residents in low-lying areas to stay indoors unless necessary. Teams have been sent out to manage traffic and offer emergency help.
IMD issue yellow warning
The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow warning for Telangana, predicting thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and heavy rain on September 18 and 19. Light rain with gusts up to 40 kmph is expected in Hyderabad and several other districts over the next 48 hours. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and avoid going near flooded underpasses or swollen drains.
