The monsoon has arrived in Kerala today, 8 days before its onset date of June 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated on Saturday. This year’s onset in Kerala is the earliest in the last 16 years. The closing time the monsoon arrived this early in the country was in 2009 and 2001, when it reached the country on May 23.
Monsoon In Kerala before schedule
The schedule date for the monsoon’s onset over Kerala is June 1. However, the earliest recorded arrival was on May 11 in the year 1918. On the other hand, the record for the late onset was in 1972, when monsoon rains began as past due as June 18.
In the closing 25 years, the most delayed arrival passed off in 2016, when the monsoon entered Kerala on June 9. Over the previous couple of years, the monsoon set in over the southern state on May 30 last year, June 8 in 2023, May 29 in 2022, June 3 in 2021, June 1 in 2020, June 8 in 2019, and May 29 in 2018, IMD records confirmed.

In the southern states, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) expected isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Kerala, coastal and south indoors Karnataka, and Konkan and Goa on Saturday.
Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected over Kerala and coastal Karnataka through May 29, with gusty winds attaining 40–50 kph. Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh may even see scattered showers and thunderstorms over the next 5 days, the climate branch said.

Eastern States Forecast
The Kerala weather branch on Friday forecast thunderstorms followed by gusty winds and heavy rainfall throughout Jharkhand over the next few days. According to the weather department, under-regular temperatures ranges from 31 to 37 degrees Celsius are probable to retain till May 29.
