Two Indian men were victims of a racial attack in Israel. A video released by Israeli broadcaster KAN shows a group of attackers beating the men in a public park.
CCTV footage depicts the two men walking along a footpath, closely followed by three or four individuals in hooded jackets. The video then cuts to a nearby public park, where several of the hooded assailants hold one of the men while another repeatedly punches him.
2 Indians killed in “racial assault” in Israel
This incident occurred in Ashkelon, an Israeli city located 50 kilometers from Tel Aviv and near Gaza. The Hebrew captions on the video describe the attack as premeditated and driven by racism and malice. Plans for the assault made on WhatsApp beforehand.
The attack follows India’s joining over 100 United Nations member states in condemning Israel’s expansion in the West Bank.
Led political tensions
In a post on X, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera called on External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to urgently investigate the incident and check on the victims’ condition.
The statement says, “We strongly condemn Israeli decisions and actions aimed at expanding Israel illegal presence in the West Bank. Such actions violate Israel’s obligations under international law and reversed immediately. We emphasize our strong opposition to any form of annexation.” PM Modi is expected to visit Israel on February 25 for a two-day trip.
