Three-time Olympic freestyle wrestling champion Buvaisar Saitiev dies at 49 on Sunday. Russian Wrestling Federation (RWF) President Mikhail Mamiashvili express shock in news, and state, “They called me only 10 minutes before to inform me about this tragedy. It is tough to believe. We are planned to fly together tomorrow.”

Buvaisar Saitiev dies at 49

Buvaisar Saitiev is regarded as the greatest freestyle wrestler in history. He won Olympic gold in the 74 kg category at the 1996, 2004, and 2008 Games. He was the six-time world and European champion. He is well known for his contributions to sport and gains various prestigious Russian honours, include the Order of Honor, Order of Merit for the Fatherland, and Order of Friendship.

Saitiev enter in politics after his retirement in 2009. He works as a member of the State Duma. His influence go beyond the wrestling mat and shape Russia’s sporting landscape for years.
