Seven people died in a Qatar Military Helicopter Crash, the country’s interior ministry reported. Earlier reports had said six people killed. Both Qatari and Turkish authorities confirmed the updated number.
7 killed in Qatar Military Helicopter Crash
The defence ministry stated that the helicopter crashed due to a technical problem during routine duty. According to the Qatari and Turkish defence ministries, four of the deceased were Qatari armed forces members, one was from the Qatar-Turkey joint forces, and two were technicians. The Qatari government did not share more details about the identities of those on board beyond this information.
Initial reports suggest that a technical issue may have caused the crash. There was no evidence that hostile action led to the accident, even with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Crash occur during war
This Qatar Military Helicopter Crash happened during rising tensions in the region. Iran has attacked US bases and other critical sites multiple times since the Israeli-US airstrikes on February 28. Within a day of those airstrikes, Iran launched 44 missiles and eight drones toward Qatar. An early-warning radar in northern Qatar damaged in the Iranian attack on March 1.
More recently, after Israel targeted the South Pars gas field, which Iran shares with Qatar, Tehran responded by launching drones and missiles at gas facilities in Qatar and other Gulf countries. The Turkish defence ministry said that military cooperation and coordination between Turkey and Qatar continues without interruption, following existing agreements and plans.
