External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed Canada’s new Foreign Minister Anita Anand on Monday during her first official visit since taking office. He said India looks forward to improving its ties with Canada, as PM Modi indicated in his meeting with Canadian PM Carney earlier this year.

Jaishankar made these comments in the national capital during bilateral talks between the two leaders. He said, “India-Canada bilateral relations have been steadily progressing in the last few months. We are working to restore and strengthen the mechanisms necessary to advance our partnership. As PM Modi noted during his meeting with PM Carney in Kananaskis, India’s approach is to move forward with a positive mindset.”
He also mentioned a meeting earlier that day between Anand and PM Modi. In that meeting, the Prime Minister outlined a vision for cooperation and discussed how to achieve it.
Effort to strengthens the India-Canada bilateral ties
The Ministry of External Affairs pointed out that Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand visit to India aims to revitalize India-Canada bilateral ties. Official Spokesperson for the Ministry, Randhir Jaiswal, said that the visit aims to deepen partnerships across various areas, including economic cooperation, strategic dialogue, and people-to-people connections.
Anita Anand arrived in Delhi on Sunday for her official visit. In addition to Delhi, Anand will visit Mumbai to engage with Canadian and Indian businesses to foster investment, job creation, and economic opportunities in both countries.
