The Danish defense ministry said that soldiers will need to shoot first and ask questions later if USA invades Greenland. This follows the army’s rule of engagement from 1952, which requires soldiers to attack invaders without waiting for orders.
The ministry confirmed that the rule “remains in force” after Berlingske, a Danish newspaper, inquired about it.
Denmark Greenland Warns USA
This comment comes as US President Donald Trump has renewed his effort to take over Greenland, which is a NATO territory. He mentioned that “military force” is one option the US is considering to achieve its goal of acquiring the Arctic island.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “President Trump has made it clear that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority for the USA, and it’s essential to deter our opponents in the Arctic. The President and his team are discussing various options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, using the US Military is always an option available to the Commander in Chief.”
Will NATO alliance ends?
US Vice President JD Vance said that Denmark “obviously” has not done a good job securing Greenland and that Trump “is willing to go as far as he has to” to protect American interests in the Arctic.
Danish Prime Minister MetteFrederiksen warned the Republican leader on Monday that any US attack on Greenland would signal the end of the NATO alliance and “the security that has been established since the end of the Second World War.”
Trump has claimed that the USA must control the world’s largest island to ensure its own security amid rising threats from China and Russia in the Arctic.
