India Reacts to Demolition of Hindu Deity Statue, Go Against
“We have seen reports of the destruction of a statue of a Hindu religious deity that built recently and located in an area affected by the ongoing Thai-Cambodia border dispute,” said Randhir Jaiswal.
He noted that Hindu and Buddhist deities deeply respected and worshipped by people in the region and are part of our shared cultural heritage. India urged both countries to engage in dialogue and diplomacy to maintain peace and prevent loss of life and damage to property. Clashes between the two nations began in July, and despite a ceasefire brokered by US President Donald Trump, the conflict resumed this month.

Videos of the demolition of the Vishnu statue using a backhoe loader have gone viral on social media. According to a report by news agency AFP, Preah Vihear’s spokesperson Lim Chanpanha said that the statue was on Cambodian territory in the An Ses area. Chanpanha indicated that the demolition of the Vishnu statue, that built in 2014, took place on Monday, about 100 meters (328 feet) from the border with Thailand.
“We condemn the destruction of ancient temples and statues that worshipped by Buddhist and Hindu followers,” Chanpanha said.
