Iran Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has rejected Donald Trump’s claims of negotiations with the United States. He called them “fake news” designed to manipulate financial and oil markets and distract from what he sees as a strategic setback for the US and Israel.
In a post on X, Ghalibaf said, “No negotiations have been held with the US, and fake news is used to manipulate the financial and oil markets and escape the quagmire in which the US and Israel are trapped.”
Trump said productive talks between Iran and USA
These comments come after US President Donald Trump announced on Monday a pause on planned strikes against Iranian energy sites. He referred to these discussions as “productive,” while Iran suggested this was a sign of US retreat under its “firm warning.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he directed the US Department of War to “postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period,” citing ongoing discussions. He noted that the decision would rely on the outcome of talks expected to continue all week.
Professor links Trump statements to market moves
Seyed Mohammad Marandi, a professor at the University of Tehran, openly questioned Trump’s assertions. “Every week, when markets open, Trump makes these kinds of statements to drive down oil prices. Even his five-day deadline aligns with the closure of the energy market,” he wrote.
“But in reality, there are no negotiations underway, nor does Trump have the ability to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran strong threat has once again forced Trump to back down.”
