As Donald Trump campaigns to return to the White House, he has made grand promises aimed at reshaping America’s policies on such issues as international relations, immigration, and economic growth. He was elected as the 47th President of the United States of America, marking his second term in the role.
Trump’s speech was all over the internet with a myriad of promises regarding America’s establishment and its foreign policy. This blog discusses five promises of Donald Trump that are the most talked-about and could define a possible successful second term.
5 Promises of Donald Trump
Ending the Russia-Ukraine War “in a Day
One of Trump’s most aggressive promises is that he can bring the Russia-Ukraine war “within a day.” Though he hasn’t provided specific details, Trump asserts that his different approach might mean an early peace treaty. His experience in international diplomacy, including unprecedented meetings with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, shows he would strive to go for direct negotiations.
Critics, of course, will argue that such a complication of war calls for subtler subtlety; but as for the much-publicized Trump saying that he is going to bring an end to the war in just a single day, that he certainly garnered a lot.
Limitations to Abortions and Trans-gender
On domestic social issues, he has made it appear that he shall make regulations on abortion greater, along with transgender rights. He advocates a nationwide prohibition of late-term abortions with some exemptions as one step toward making abortion illegal with stricter restrictions. Moreover, Trump proposes to bar transgender women from competing in women’s sports.
These policies are backed by his conservative constituency; he claims that these are changes that would ensure “fairness and safety.” Critics, however, say that these are unconstitutional violations of individual rights because Trump’s return might just alter social policies to the right.
Border Security and Mass Deportations
Trump vowed to enhance border security by completing the border wall and starting what he terms the largest deportation operation in U.S. history. He has mentioned that he targets illegal immigrants, targeting those with a criminal record. He says such an act would cut the level of job competition and reduce costs associated with undocumented immigration.
While such promises ring very well in the ears of his base, critics claim that they can inflict damage on industries that rely on foreign employees. The talk of massive deportations and building walls has been a hallmark of Trump’s more general approach to tightening immigration.
Lower Taxes on Overtime, Tips, and Social Security Payments
Trump has listed various tax changes he will propose to enhance how much money working Americans can take home. His proposals include a permanent extension of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and an idea of the removal of all taxes on overtime pay, tips, and Social Security benefits.
According to him, these would increase disposable income for middle and lower-income workers. While some economists see potential danger in Social Security funding being severely affected, the Trump tax plan provides direct short-term relief to the workers and the seniors.
Resuscitating American Manufacturing Through Tariffs
The revival of American manufacturing was one of the main themes of the economic promises of Trump. He promised to subject all imported goods, mainly from China, to blanket tariffs and high tariffs for companies that take their production out of the U.S. This, according to Trump, would protect American jobs and strengthen home production.
However, past tariffs are typically included in the price charged to consumers, as American businesses will pay more for foreign goods. Nevertheless, Trump’s tariff policy reflects his “America First” doctrine and his attempt at national economic independence.
