Recently, India secure the passage for oil tankers to pass through strategically important Strait of Hormuz. It is result of talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.
India Secures Safe Passage for Oil Tankers
The discussions aimed to ensure that India’s energy supplies remain steady amid rising tensions in West Asia. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s key maritime chokepoints, through which a large portion of global crude oil and natural gas shipments transit.
As the regional conflict heightens concerns about shipping disruptions, New Delhi quickly acted to secure safe passage for its energy imports. Sources said that the diplomatic engagement aimed to keep the sea route open for Indian vessels. It allows shipments of crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LPG) to continue without major interruptions.
Energy price surge heat in India
Disruptions tied to the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran, along with instability around the Strait of Hormuz. It cause a shortage of commercial LPG in India, seriously impacting the hospitality sector.
Restaurants in cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai warned of potential closures as supplies of commercial LPG cylinders remain disrupted. Industry groups report that deliveries have been halted since Sunday, leaving many establishments struggling to operate. Nearly 20 % of hotels and restaurants in Mumbai shut down, while the Chennai Hotels Association urged Modi to ensure immediate LPG supplies.
