India stays firm with its position on the Israel-Palestine conflict by supporting a two-state solution, which provides a sovereign and independent Palestinian state that peacefully coexists with Israel. Talking in Parliament, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the commitment of India to this resolution as an integral part of its foreign policy.
Asked about India’s record as a UN assembly member on the issue of Gaza, Mr. Jaishankar elaborated that in light of the October 2023 war between Israel and Hamas, 13 such resolutions have been called for at the UN General Assembly. India, among 10 resolutions in favor or against three, showed a consistent nuanced, and balanced policy approach. He also reiterated India’s focus on humanitarian aid, and the country’s diplomacy which he stated India supports laying down the foundation for, long-term peace in the region, through the two-state solution.
He was quoted as saying:
“Since the beginning of the Israel- Hamas conflict, 13 resolutions concerning Palestine were brought in UNGA out of which India voted in favour of 10 resolutions and abstained from three resolutions,”
The importance of India in the Palestinian acute crisis has been very important. The authorities received 70 metric tonnes of relief assistance, including therapeutics and health care supplies, from the government. This support also included $5 million for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in 2024, matching an earlier contribution in 2023.
India in favour of two-state solution for Israel-Palestine war, says Palestine can be at peace
Mr. Jaishankar further emphasized that these have been made in response to India’s strong commitment to peace and stability in the region. India is also in favor of the two-way solution in which the Israelis and Palestinians are living in secure and internationally recognized borders.
“India’s policy towards Palestine has been long-standing and we have always supported a negotiated two-State solution, towards the establishment of a sovereign, independent and viable State of Palestine within secure and recognized borders, living side by side in peace with Israel,” Mr Jaishankar said.
Diplomatic activity has always been one of the main and important affairs of India. Discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s and Mr. Jaishankar’s office at high levels with other international leaders, for instance, with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas as well as with the Israeli leaders, have concentrated on the technique of crisis intervention. At the Future Summit in New York, PM Modi stressed that India continues to urge for a ceasefire and to resume peace talks.
The stance of the State of India on the two-state solution has also been propagated actively at an international, at the UN, BRICS, and non-aligned levels. Using humanitarian aid, diplomatic persuasion, and a consistent principled approach, India contributes to support of a two-state solution as a pathway to lasting peace in the Middle East.
