As tensions rise in the Middle East, a Indian Tanker Shenlong Reaches Mumbai after navigating the risky Strait of Hormuz. The Liberia-flagged Shenlong is the first vessel headed for India to cross this route and reach the country since maritime traffic interrupted by the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Captained by an Indian, the Suezmax tanker picked up crude oil at Ras Tanura in Saudi Arabia on March 1 and left two days later.

Maritime tracking data from Lloyd’s List Intelligence and Tanker Trackers showed the ship’s last reported location in the Strait of Hormuz on March 8.

Sources said the Indian ships began their journeys safely through the Strait between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. An official statement on this issue is still pending.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping routes for oil, with nearly one-fifth of global crude supplies passing through that narrow area. However, the route has become more perilous.

“The ship Shenlong is carrying 135,335 metric tonnes of crude oil. It docked at Jawahar Dweep and begun unloading the crude cargo,” said deputy conservator of the Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA). Officials said that the unloading take around 36 hours. The tanker owned by Shenlong Shipping Ltd and managed by Dynacom Tanker Management Ltd.
