The war between USA and Iran are now expanding towards Indian Ocean with two strikes. This shift widens the geographic scope of war. Now Iran launched the two ballistic missiles at the US-UK military base at Diego Garcia in the Chagos Islands.
Iran conflicts now spreading towards India
One missile failed mid-flight, while an interceptor from a US warship engaged the second missile; however, it remains uncertain if it was destroyed.
The base is about 4,000 km from Iran, indicating a major increase in Iran’s capabilities. This means Iran can now target bases in Europe. The Pentagon has not commented on the situation yet.
Now target the west
“If reports are correct that Iran attempted to hit the Island of Diego Garcia deep in the Central Indian Ocean, then Iran has just widened the war and sent a very clear message towards the West while striking South,” said former Union Minister Manish Tewari in a post on X.
Weeks earlier, in the first engagement of the war in the Indian Ocean, a US submarine sank the Iranian warship IRIS Dena with a torpedo south of Sri Lanka, resulting in over 85 fatalities. The warship was a frigate returning home after taking part in MILAN 2026, a naval exercise hosted by India.
