At least 12 people died and more than 25 injured, most of them lawyers, when a powerful explosion went off in a parked car near the Islamabad judicial complex on Tuesday, according to Pakistani media. Officials stated that the blast was a suicide attack.
The explosion happened around 12:30 PM, during peak business hours, near the entrance of the Islamabad district court, creating panic among lawyers in the area. The blast was reportedly so loud that it heard up to six kilometers away.
PAK PM Jumps to Blame Media
On the same day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif quickly blamed India for the suicide blast in Islamabad and for an attack on a cadet college in Wana near the Afghan border that occurred on Monday. He claimed that “Indian-backed militants” operating from Afghan territory targeted civilians and children, stating that such attacks supported by India from Afghan soil should receive strong condemnation.
“No condemnation is enough for these attacks carried out from Afghan soil under Indian patronage,” he said. Sharif made these allegations shortly after the blasts, without providing evidence, according to APP.
