Recently, PM Narendra Modi said that India linked with Trinidad and Tobago not only by blood or surname, but by belongings. It highlights the cultural relationship between India and Trinidad- Tobago.
Bihar, the background of that is the pride of India and the world, considers Kamla Persad-Bissessar their daughter, PM Narendra Modi said in community event at the National Cycling Velodrome, Couva. “We aren’t just related by blood or surname, we are linked by belonging. India appears out to you and welcomes you,” PM Modi said. He also said, “ancestors of PM Kamla were from Bihar’s Buxar.
PM Highlights Trinidad- Tobago Cultural Ties and Announce OCI Cards eligibility
Addressing the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that citizens of India origin in Caribbean, up to the 6th generation, considered eligible for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards. It allows them to live and works in India without restrictions.
Journey of Indian community in Caribbean Country
PM Modi also talks about journey of Indian community in Trinidad- Tobago, considered it courage. It focus that the hardships their ancestors endured should have “damaged even the most powerful spirits”.
PM Modi, whose first engagement in the Caribbean country was with the Indian network, also said that it felt absolutely natural. He further said, “we’re a part of one family” Trinidad and Tobago has a population of around 13 lakh, 45 % of whom are of Indian origin.
