A charity founded by Britain’s Prince Harry in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana, has taken legal action against him. This marks a significant change in their already-strained relationship. The case focuses on claims of reputational harm. The Duke firmly denies these claims and is challenging what his team calls damaging accusations.
Legal Action Filed Against Prince Harry
The organization, Sentebale, filed proceedings in the High Court in London on March 24. The case falls under defamation, which includes libel and slander. In addition to Prince Harry, Mark Dyer, a former trustee of the charity, is also named in the filings.
Sentebale stated that this legal action follows a coordinated negative media campaign. According to the charity, this campaign disrupted operations and damaged its public image. They claimed that the backlash led to widespread online criticism directed at its leadership.
In response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Mark Dyer said, “As Sentebale’s co-founder and a founding trustee, they categorically reject these offensive and damaging claims.”
A Charity Built On Legacy
Prince Harry co-founded Sentebale in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to support young people affected by HIV and AIDS in Lesotho and later Botswana. The charity’s name, meaning “forget me not” in Sesotho, is a touching tribute to Princess Diana, who died in 1997.
However, tensions within the organization have grown. In 2025, the charity’s chairperson, Sophie Chandauka, accused Harry of trying to force her resignation, leading to a very public dispute.
