United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (US local time) that India, and the US “are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two countries.” Sharing an update on India-US trade talks, Trump posted on Truth Social, “I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the coming weeks.”
“I feel sure that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries!,” Trump said. Trump’s announcement on Tuesday came weeks after the US imposed a 50 % tariff on Indian goods, including an additional 25 % penalty on buying Russian oil.
Trump announce special relationship during India-US trade talks
Earlier this week, President Trump, while making an announcement in the White House, called the India-US ties a “very special relationship” and confirmed that he and PM Modi would always be friends, said that there is “nothing to worry about”. However, he expressed displeasure over what “he is doing” earlier.
Trump impose massive tariffs on China
Trump said he’s prepared to join the European Union to impose sweeping new tariffs on India, but still the India-US trade talks. The US is willing to mirror tariffs imposed by Europe on either country, sources said. Sources said that Trump urged EU officials on Tuesday to hit China with tariffs of up to 100% and also encouraged them to slap India with same expansive tariffs.
China and India are major purchasers of Russian oil and, as such, they play a vital role in keeping Russia’s economy afloat as it continues to pursue its expanded invasion of Ukraine, which began in 2022.
