Recently, US has give the temporary 30-day waiver to India to accept Russian oil already at sea. This move stabilize global energy supplies amid the war involving Iran.
U.S. Grants India 30-Day Waiver to Accept Russian Oil
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the Trump took this decision as short-term response to market disruptions from ongoing conflict. This grant allows Indian refiners to take in Russian oil that already departed from ports and currently on ships.
Decision Taken to Address Global Energy Disruptions
Leavitt mentioned at a White House press conference that Trump, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and the entire national security team made this choice because India has been a good partner and has previously stopped purchasing sanctioned Russian oil.
Leavitt explained, “As we work to fill this temporary gap of oil supply worldwide due to the Iranians, we have allowed India to accept Russian oil that was already at sea. This is a short-term measure, and we do not believe it will provide significant financial benefit to the Russian government at this time.”
