Amid ongoing violent protests in Nepal, the Uttar Pradesh government has instructed the police to stay on high alert across all seven border districts with the Himalayan nation. This decision came after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned following days of violent ‘GenZ’ protests led by young demonstrators who opposed corruption and a controversial social media ban.

The alert follows violent clashes in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, and several other cities, where protesters stormed and set fire to the Parliament building, the President’s office at Shital Niwas, and the homes of top leaders. Local media reports shows that at least 19 people died and more than 500 have injured in ‘GenZ’ protests.

On Tuesday, Nepalese President Ram Chandra Paudel called for calm, urging protesters to seek dialogue rather than destruction. “In a democracy, the demands raised by citizens can be addressed through dialogue and negotiation,” he said.
