All Indigo flights departing Delhi have been canceled until midnight, the airport reported in a short post on X Friday morning. However, sources within the national aviation regulator, the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation told that flights were canceled only until 3 PM.
DGCA warned the Indigo flights cancellations
The cancellations follow a warning from the DGCA about the shortage of IndiGo ground staff at Delhi’s Terminal 1, which struggled to manage the growing number of stranded and upset passengers.
This conflicting information only confuse tens of thousands of passengers who already involved about long delays and rising travel costs. It highlights the chaos that has affected flight operations at IndiGo, India’s largest airline, over the past four days.
Highest number of flights cancelled
On Thursday alone, IndiGo canceled 550 flights, the highest number it has ever canceled in one day. This affected multiple airports, including Delhi. Today, the airline has already canceled over 500 flights, including those to and from Delhi. Additionally, over 200 flights canceled between Tuesday and Wednesday.
In total, nearly 1,300 Indigo flights have canceled so far, with no signs of improvement in the near future. IndiGo has warned of more disruptions until at least December 8.
On Wednesday, IndiGo acknowledged it had miscalculated the number of pilots needed under the new Flight Duty Time Limitations rules. These rules require longer rest periods, increasing from 36 to 48 hours within a seven-day span, and reducing the number of consecutive hours a pilot can work.
