A wedding celebration in Bihar’s Buxar district became a shocking event night when a bride shot at close range on stage. She is killed allegedly by a ex boyfriend, as per local media reports.
Bride shot dead in Buxar during Jaimala
The victim, 18-year-old Aarti Kumari, was taking part in the jaimala ritual, the traditional exchange of garlands, at a venue in Chausa Nagar Panchayat when the attacker opened fire. Reports indicate that the wedding procession had come from Ballia in the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh, and celebrations were in full swing when the shooting happened at around 11 PM.
During the rituals, as a relative was performing a ceremony, the suspect reportedly fired a single shot into the bride’s abdomen. Hospital officials confirmed that the gunshot hit a sensitive area, leaving the victim in critical condition.
Family took to local hospital, critical condition
Ms. Kumari rushed to the local Sadar Hospital for emergency treatment. However, due to the severity of her injuries, doctors provided only first aid before referring her to the Trauma Centre in Varanasi. Medical staff there described her situation as life-threatening, and she remains under intensive care.
Local residents and investigators believe the shooting motivated by a previous relationship between the victim and the suspect. Initial findings suggest the accused upset about Ms. Kumari’s marriage to another man and acted out of rage.
Buxar Superintendent of Police, ShubhamArya, is personally overseeing the investigation. While the main suspect is still at large, police have detained his parents for questioning to find out his location, according to reports from the scene. Authorities have assured the public that an arrest will happen soon as the investigation proceeds.
