A woman in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, has received a life sentence for killing her five-year-old son after he supposedly saw her in a questionable situation with another man, according to reports.

The incident occurred on April 28, 2023. Jyoti Rathore, who is married to police constable Dhyan Singh Rathore, was having an affair with her neighbor, Uday Indolia. Investigators told the court that Jyoti feared her son, Jatin, would tell his father what he had seen.
To silence her son, Jyoti is accused of throwing Jatin from the roof of their two-story building. The boy suffered severe injuries and died within 24 hours.
Initially, Jatin’s death was treated as an accidental fall from the rooftop. However, police grew suspicious soon after. Around 15 days later, Jyoti allegedly confessed to her husband.

Dhyan Singh had begun to doubt the circumstances of his son’s death. He recorded several audio and video conversations in which Jyoti admitted her involvement. He also gathered CCTV footage from cameras at their home and provided this evidence to the police.
Following his complaint, a case was opened against Jyoti and Uday. After an investigation, Gwalior police filed charges naming both as suspects.
During the trial, the court found Jyoti guilty based on circumstantial evidence and sentenced her to life in prison. Uday, on the other hand, was found not guilty due to insufficient evidence.
