Jadavpur University will receive ₹47 crore through the RUSA 2.0, but there is one condition: the university must spend the funds by March 31, an education department official said on Tuesday. 60 % of the grant will come from the Union government, while the state will provide the rest. The state education department will distribute the funds.
JU get 47 crore RUSA 2.0 grant
A meeting last week at Bikash Bhavan, the education secretariat, discussed how the university could access the money. Of the ₹100 crore allocated for JU under the scheme, the university received ₹53 crore in 2019.
Vice Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee mentioned they are deciding on the best ways to use the funds. “The money is for us. The only condition is we must spend it by March 31,” said VC Bhattacharjee.
In November, Calcutta University received ₹35 crore under the scheme from the Union and state governments. CU plans to use this amount for instruments and research.
University planning to develops ERP system
The JU vice-chancellor indicated they plan to spend part of the RUSA 2.0 funds on developing an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. This software platform centralizes and automates administrative, financial, and student-related processes, replacing manual systems.
Bhattacharjee noted that while many smaller institutes have implemented their own ERP systems, JU does not have one. This lack has forced the university, known for its engineering education nationwide, to rely on manual processes, leading to delays in results publication, according to a JU official.
The official also said that assessment agencies like the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) check whether an institute has an ERP system that connects various departments to streamline operations such as admissions, fee collection, and result publication.
