The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) had to cancel both shifts of the SSC GD Constable exam at a center in Kanpur due to severe overcrowding and confusion, which caused chaos among candidates on Monday. The trouble started because nearly double the number of candidates were allocated compared to the center’s approved seating capacity.
SSC GD Exam cancels, students start protesting
This incident happened at the Shrimati Ramkali Iqbal Bahadur Online Centre in Purvameer, in the Maharajpur area of Kanpur. Officials reported that the center could seat 399 candidates per shift. However, they issued admit cards to about 819 candidates for each shift, leading to overcrowding both outside and inside the exam venue.
The SSC GD Constable exam supposed to take place in two shifts, from 2 PM to 3 PM and from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Problems began when candidates arriving at the venue noticed that many more examinees were present than the center could accommodate. Officials mentioned that nearly 350 candidates already seated when they realized the mismatch between the allotted candidates and the available seats.

The sudden cancellation caused anger and frustration among candidates, many of whom had traveled from far districts to take the exam. Some aspirants protested outside the center, asking for clarification and a rescheduling of the exam.
