A viral video shot in Brampton shows some 3,000 students from India lining up for jobs as waiters. This is but one tiny snapshot of problems related to international students working in entry-level placements.
To search for international jobs, unemployed Indian students proliferate across Canada. Many arrive with visions of working in the field they have chosen to study but increasingly end up fighting for low paying service industry work. Because of economic shifts, unemployment has crept up in Canada as well, affecting international students disproportionately. Unemployment across Canada is now 6.6 per cent, its highest level in seven years outside the pandemic.
Often, unemployed Indian students in Canada have to suffer from very high tuition fees, rent, and other expenses of the staying. They also are only permitted to work for very few hours in addition to classes, which makes both ends meet up a big stress. Most of them have to take up jobs that are not relevant with their study at all and suffer limited growth and less financial security.
Why unemployed Indian students in Canada are struggling even with work permits?

These problems need to be solved since the international students in Canada are increasing day by day with a mismatch in the skills to the job-market requirements.
In addition to economic pressure, Indian students who become unemployed in Canada face another important issue: they have no work experience in Canada. Local credentials and work histories will still be preferred, leaving the international students at the lower end of competition. In effect, an increasing level of mismatch between their skills and the needs required within the job market makes them worse off financially.
