Prime Minister Internship Scheme launch: More than 1.5 lakh students register in one day

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme portal witnessed a massive response in just a day of its launch, with 1,55,109 candidates registering, according to government sources.

Officials said the scheme announced in the Union Budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would help fight unemployment among young talent in the country by matching with firms seeking skilled manpower.

193 companies post their Internship opportunities on the Prime Minister Internship Scheme Portal

Currently, 193 companies have come forward and posted their internship opportunities on the portal that include big names like Jubilant Foodworks, Maruti Suzuki India, Larsen & Toubro, Muthoot Finance, and Reliance Industries. With this, the scheme reflects its wide industrial scope as companies from industries including Oil, Gas & Energy, Travel & Hospitality, Automotives, and Banking have joined hands with it.

It is hoped by the government that the The Prime Minister Internship Scheme will enable handling criticism from the opposition on unemployment; and it actually does provide a practical avenue for work experience to be given to youths. A senior government official added that the scheme acts as “a bridge between companies looking for talent and youth seeking opportunities.”

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme spreads across 24 sectors, 20 fields, 37 states, and 737 districts

Internships are spread across 24 sectors and above 20 fields that include operations management, production, maintenance, and sales and covered as many as 737 districts in 37 states and union territories.

Under this scheme, the government could assist the unemployed to enhance their long-term careers since it is accessible to top companies with openings which would create a space in the skills of various industries. The initiative focuses on the unified campaign towards tackling youth unemployment and mobilization for India’s thriving economy.
