Bharat Dev Varma, husband of veteran actor Moon Moon Sen, died at his residence in Kolkata today, November 19. He is said to have breathed his last around 9 a.m. before an ambulance from a private hospital in Dhakuria could reach his home. Reports indicate his health had been declining in recent days, prompting the call for medical assistance.

The scion, Bharat Dev Varma hails from the royal house of Tripura. He draws his ancestry from well-known aristocratic families. His mother, Ila Devi, was the princess of Cooch Behar, and the elder sister of Gayatri Devi, Maharani of Jaipur. Bharat’s grandmother was Indira, who was the only daughter of Maharaja Searji Rao Gaikwad III of Vadodara.

Married to Moon Moon Sen since 1978, Bharat was father to two famous actresses, Raima Sen and Riya Sen.
