The release of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2was scheduled for Friday, December 5. For weeks leading up to the release, the actor and his co-stars promoted the film across the Telugu states.
However, just hours before the film was supposed to hit theatres, with preview shows about to begin, the release was suddenly postponed.
Akhanda 2 release face the ₹28 Crore legal issues
While the makers cited “technical issues beyond our control,” a court case involving the production house, 14 Reels Entertainment, and Eros might be the real cause.
On Thursday, the day before Akhanda 2’s release, Eros International Media Limited announced that the Madras High Court issued an order preventing the release of Akhanda 2. In a press release from Eros, it stated that the appeal was filed by Eros concerning its long-running arbitral award against 14 Reels Entertainment Private Limited.
Under this award, Eros holds a money decree of around ₹28 crore. Eros requested urgent temporary measures from the Court to ensure effective enforcement of this award.
Makers talk about delay
On Thursday night, 14 Reels posted on X (formerly Twitter), “With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that #Akhanda2 will not be releasing as scheduled due to unavoidable circumstances. This is a painful moment for us, and we truly understand the disappointment it brings to every fan and movie lover awaiting the film. We are working hard to resolve the matter as soon as possible. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Your support means the world to us. We promise to share a positive update very soon.”
Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is the sequel to the 2021 hit Akhanda, directed by Boyapati Srinu. Besides Balakrishna, the film also features Samyuktha, Aadhi Pinishetty, and Harshaali Malhotra in important roles. The film’s soundtrack, composed by Thaman S, received a positive response from fans. The makers have not yet announced a new release date.
