Release of Kangana Ranaut's Emergency postponed due to controversy

The much-anticipated release of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency has been postponed, raising much debate and public outcry. This film by actress Kangana was scheduled to be released on September 6. However, its release was stalled after the Central Board of Film Certification decided to rescind its certificate for this film following several petitions against it. The announcement about the delay in the release of Emergency came official during an interview that the actress-director gave on the podcast of Shubhankar Mishra. During her conversation, the Gangster star seemed deeply frustrated about the situation.

The CBFC’s call for a review of certification, especially considering the sensitive nature of the assassination of Indira Gandhi and the most notorious figure of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and the riots in Punjab-has further made the release of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency even more complex and complicated. CBFC has accentuated the view that it needs to take the sentiments of all communities into account during the review. As a consequence, it further delays the release of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency.

Delay in release of Kangana Ranaut’e Emergency makes her ‘disappointed’

Ranaut has said it felt like an “Emergency has been imposed on her film”. She criticizes the CBFC’s decision to do so when films such as these were made without any opposition. The determination of Kangana remains strong in her fight back. She has promised to release an uncut version of Emergency. Furthermore, the actress is even prepared to go to court to ensure that the film is seen as it was meant to be. She said:

“Meri film pe hi Emergency lag gayi hai. Bahut hi nirashajanak ye sthiti hai. Main toh khair bahut hi zyada disappointed hu apne desh se, aur jo bhi haalaat hain (An Emergency has been imposed on my film too. It’s a very hopeless state. I’m quite disappointed by our country and whatever the circumstances are),”

She further added,

“We’ll keep telling those ridiculous stories otherwise. We’ll get scared by someone today, someone else tomorrow. People will keep scaring us because we get scared so easily. How much will we keep getting scared? I’ve made this film with a lot of self-respect which is why the CBFC can’t point out any contention. They’ve stalled my certificate, but I’m determined to release an uncut version of the film. I’ll fight in court and release an uncut version. I can’t show all of a sudden that Indira Gandhi died on her own at her home. I can’t show it like that,”

The recently released Emergency by Kangana Ranaut has flared into an ongoing debate over the portrayal of historical events. As events continue to unfold, the eventual release of the film remains one of the most highly scrutinized topics.
