The 2025 Golden Globes Awards happened on January 5, 2025, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles to honor excellence in film and television. Though India’s entry, All We Imagine As Light, by Payal Kapadia had two nominations, it didn’t take home anything.
Dominant winners of the evening were two films: The Brutalist by Emilia Perez, which carried home multiple prizes. Shogun, being an outstanding television award winner, dominated with four and thus stands well as one of the most widely discussed productions of the year.
Film and Television Awards Highlights
Emilia Perez won four awards, including Best Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy), Best Non-English Language Film, and Best Original Song for “El Mal.” Zoe Saldana was overwhelmed with emotion while accepting the award for Best Supporting Actress. She thanked her co-stars Selena Gomez and Karla Sofia Gascon for their work and also gave a word of thanks to director Jacques Audiard for his vision.
The Brutalist claimed three major awards, including Best Motion Picture (Drama). Brady Corbet was honored as Best Director and Adrien Brody won Best Actor (Drama). Fernanda Torres received the Best Actress (Drama) award for her moving performance in I’m Still Here.
Shogun swept the drama category, claiming Best Series (Drama) and three acting awards. Best Actor and Actress (Drama) were handed to Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, while Tadanobu Asano won Best Supporting Actor.
For comedy, Hacks won Best Series (Musical/Comedy), with Jean Smart also winning Best Actress for her performance.
The Golden Globes also brought some new categories. Among them is the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award, which Wicked won.
