Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh recently turned down calls to enter politics in Punjab. Since 2022, he has been traveling on a US passport. He gained US citizenship that year and not holds Indian citizenship.
Diljit Dosanjh have U.S. Citizenship
The report mentioned that Dosanjh has entered India on an e-visa since September 2022, indicating that he does not have an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. It also said that he used his US passport during his latest visit to India.
The revelation has captured attention because Dosanjh is one of the most celebrated Indian-origin artists worldwide. He has a massive fan base across India and a public image closely tied to Punjabi identity and culture.
Will face backslash from Indians?
Over the years, he has often referred to himself as “Main Hoon Punjab [I am Punjab],” a phrase that has become closely linked to his persona. However, he has never publicly mentioned giving up his Indian citizenship or obtaining US nationality.
Diljit Dosanjh has continued to work extensively in Indian cinema even after reportedly becoming a US citizen. Earlier this year, he joined the cast of Border 2, playing Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only Indian Air Force officer awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honor.
