Film editor Nishadh Yusuf, who was a prominent face in the industry, was found dead in an apartment on the first floor of a building in Kochi, Kerala Wednesday morning. The body of the 43-year-old was found at around 2:00 am in Panampilly Nagar. The initial reports from the police stated that it was a suicide, and nothing has been confirmed after that.
The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Directors’ Union confirmed the news and paid tribute to Yusuf’s contribution to Malayalam cinema in a heartfelt social media post. The viral post mourns his loss as a significant blow to the industry.
As Nishadh Yusuf was found dead, this news has sent shockwaves through the South Indian film world. Notably, he was celebrated for his editing work in both Malayalam and Tamil cinema. Known for his innovative style and precision, Yusuf has been a part of some of the most well-crafted films, Thallumaala, Unda, One, Saudi Vellakka, and Adios Amigos, to name a few.

He was working on future projects like Bazooka, with Mammootty, and Kanguva, with Suriya, and his death created a void in the fraternity. The deceased was supposed to deliver some of the notable upcoming projects. Kanguva, starring Suriya, is scheduled to be released in November. It would prove to be a milestone as Yusuf would have wanted the release of this film.
He also received high critical acclaim with a win for Best Editor for 2022 at the Kerala State Film Award for the blockbuster action-comedy, which featured Tovino Thomas and Kalyani Priyadarshan. Also, Thallumaala received praise for his exceptional editing, as an exceptional demonstration of his mastercraft by Yusuf. His work on Malayalam cinema has proved transformative; it has moulded today’s face of the film world.
His wife, son, and daughter survived the tragedy. News of his death prompted his film fraternity to pay him their respect. This is another death which underlines the terrific pressures creative professionals have to toil under in the film world.
