Star cricketer Virat Kohli has given the General Power of Attorney for his large bungalow in Gurugram to his older brother, Vikas Kohli. This luxurious property, located in DLF City Phase-1, is valued at around Rs 80 crore.
Virat Kohli grant legal rights of his bungalow to brother
Sources close to the situation say that Kohli made this decision for practical reasons. He currently lives in London with his wife Anushka Sharma and their two children. To avoid legal and administrative issues with the property in India, he chose to grant Power of Attorney to his brother. This allows Vikas to manage, maintain, or even sell the property on Kohli’s behalf. It ensures that everyday tasks continue without hassle while Kohli is away.
This move has generated public interest in understanding what a Power of Attorney is and how it functions.
What is a Power of Attorney?
A Power of Attorney (PoA) is a legal document that allows one person, called the principal, to give another person, known as the agent, authority to act for them in matters related to property, finance, or legal issues. The powers granted can range from general management to specific transactions.
For example, if a property owner is living abroad and gives a PoA to a trusted relative in India, that relative (the agent) can perform property-related tasks such as selling, leasing, or maintaining the asset. These actions hold the same legal weight as if the owner had performed them themselves.
