Delhi Pollution Control Committee Announces Complete Firecracker Ban in Delhi till Jan 1

The firecracker ban in Delhi has turned effective this festive season. It is being put in place by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, which has placed a total ban on the manufacture, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers. Therefore, a blanket firecracker ban in Delhi would remain till January 1, 2025, in an attempt to curtail rising capital pollution levels.

The ban extends to online sales, which means that the delivery and purchase of firecrackers cannot be done through online e-commerce sites, thus ensuring offline markets and online markets are aligned.

The Delhi Police is an important force in the total ban of firecrackers in the polluted city. They have been directed to seize unauthorized firecracker stockpiles and submit daily action-taken reports to the DPCC. Since these reports are emailed, the agencies will closely watch the situation since the city typically witnesses pollution spurts following Dussehra.

Just when the air quality was getting unbearable, the Delhi firecracker ban happened. The AQI of Delhi registered 224 on Sunday, which belongs to the “poor” category. To confront the situation, the government has activated Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) which promises step-specific anti-pollution measures based on AQI readings.

Firecracker ban in Delhi ahead of Diwali resolve pollution issues?

The enforcement of the firecracker prohibition in the bustling city is part of a much larger initiative to curb the rising pollution levels that engulf this region, especially during the festival season of Diwali. But is banning firecrackers the solution to the entire pollution problem?

The biggest problem is due to vehicle pollution and the second reason is stubble burning. What are their actions in such a situation?

Recent reports also note the success of the firecracker ban in Delhi as it takes over 1,300 kilograms of illegal firecrackers seized from two warehouses. The arrests made have proven good steps towards an effective ban without which more deterioration to the already hazardous air quality in the city will be witnessed.
